Home Improvement: Adding Character to a Basic Brick Ranch

1960s ranch houses are not known for their character. This was a practical time in our history when people built solid, functional houses, so when you buy one and want to dress it up a bit, it can be a challenge. Well, unless you have a wife with a vision and too much time spent studying architecture and design under her belt. I have to admit that this exterior sort of evolved on its own. We inherited the loden green (a common color on Craftsman style homes) trim and shutters which I liked. We stained the porch railing Redwood at the suggestion of a friend, and the Craftsman style door just came home with me one day. You know how that happens. I can't say it turned out how I planned as I didn't really have a plan, but it feels warmer and more welcoming to me now, so I'm happy with that.
